INSIDE: Chapter Spotlight

This month, the NEC would like to highlight Page County Middle School FCCLA!
Members of the Page County Middle School chapter of FCCLA from Luray, Virginia acted upon FCCLA’s third purpose: to encourage democracy through cooperative action in the home and community. These hardworking FCCLA members organized a project to eliminate loneliness and foster friendship and inclusion among younger students.
Earlier this year, Page County Middle School FCCLA members began constructing a Buddy Bench for the playground at a local elementary school. The purpose of a Buddy Bench is to ensure that no student sits alone. When one student sees another sitting alone at a Buddy Bench, most know what to do – join them! The middle school FCCLA members promoted inclusion and a stronger sense of community among elementary school students, therefore fostering leadership qualities in a younger group of students.
Inscribed on the base of the bench are the words “Be a friend. Make a friend”. Through their efforts, Page County Middle School FCCLA members surely encouraged younger students to form friendships with fellow students in need of a buddy!
FCCLA members, how do your chapters act upon the purposes of FCCLA? Let us know!
