Taking Down Tobacco
By Shelby Lake, VP of Development
The Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids (CTFK) is the leading force in the fight to reduce tobacco use and its deadly toll in the United States and around the world. Their vision is a future free of death and disease caused by tobacco. They work to save lives by advocating for public policies that prevent kids from smoking, help smokers quit and protect everyone from secondhand smoke. FCCLA is partnering with CTFK to promote their Taking Down Tobacco programs and resources that will help FCCLA members learn about the dangers of tobacco-use.
We want you to become involved! FCCLA is encouraging chapters from across the nation to become involved in efforts that support our partnership. You can help FCCLA become a leading student organization in the fight against tobacco by growing the number of participants in this important training. The training and resources that are offered from CTFK help youth understand the dangers of tobacco and how their voices can help bring awareness to #BeTheFirst tobacco-free generation.
For advisers, CTFK offers a Facilitated Version of Taking Down Tobacco 101. This is specifically designed for advisers who want to use this in the classroom, chapter meetings, etc. With 45 minutes of lesson, this training will be fun and interactive!
For the students, CTFK offers an introductory course, Taking Down Tobacco 101. For more information visit, http://www.takingdowntobacco.org/. Be sure to note that you are affiliated with FCCLA!
In the 2017-2018 school year, FCCLA will be launching a special contest with CTFK. Chapters will have the opportunity to win cash prizes and recognition! To learn more about CTFK, visit www.tobaccofreekids.org/.
