Career Exploration Update

FCCLA is committed to providing its members with high quality educational resources and options during national meetings.  This year at the National Leadership Conference we are pleased to offer career explorations on a limited basis on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.  Career Explorations are designed to increase career awareness and encourage career investigation for student members.

 

To attend any of the explorations attendees must sign up online. 

  •  Tickets with departure/arrival times may be picked up at the FCCLA Registration Desk starting Suday at 7:00 a.m.  Payment (if applicable) will be collected when the ticket(s) is picked up.
  • Students and chaperones must be registered for the conference to attend.
  • Students must be accompanied by a chaperone to participate.
  • FCCLA reserves the right to cancel any exploration if the minimum number of participants is not met.
  • Please email all questions to meetings@fcclainc.org.

The "Federal Jobs:  Medical, Testing, and Processing" Career exploration at the Nashville Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS) has been cancelled.

 

Monday, July 13, 8:30 - 11:30 a.m.

Rainforest Cafe® - "Jungle of Job Opportunities" 

Location:  Rainferst Cafe® at Opry Mills Shopping Center (entry #3) 

Description:  Four Separate tours with different job focuses that describe what makes Rainforest Cafe® a unique dining and entertainment experience. 

Attendees should meet the Career Exploration group leader at the FCCLA Registration Desk at 8:30 a.m. and will walk to the Rainforest Cafe® as a group.  Group will depart promptly at 8:40 a.m.  There is a $5 cost for this exploration which will cover the cost of lunch. 

Careers that will be presented or discussed:  Tourism/marketing, job intervieing/expectations, retail sales, facilities and habitat management

Participation is limited to:  75

Monday, July 13, 8:30 - 10:00 a.m.

"Prestige AV & Creative Services" 

Location:  Delta Ballroom 

Description:  This will be a "back stage" tour of the National Leadership Conference General Session room.  We will give an overview of all aspects of the production including all positions.  This will be a casual presentation to be able to answer any and all questions.  There is no cost for this exploration and attendees should meet Shane Williams, Vice President/Account Manager in the Delta Ballroom. 

Careers that will presented or discussed:  Video production, staging, graphic production, theatrical lighting, and sound engineering

Tuesday, July 14, 9:50 - 11:00 a.m.

"Aquarium Restaurant - An Underwater Dining Adventure" 

Description:  Have you ever wondered what a marine biologist would do if they did not live by the ocean?  Come visit the Aquarium Restaurant & Stingray Reef in Nashville, TN to hear about all the fun that the 5 full-time marine biologists have while working here!  You will get a behind-the-scenes look at how the facility runs as well as getting to visit with our stingrays, snakes, poison dart frogs, and many other animals.  During your meal you will get to enjoy watching our diver feeding the animals in the 200,000 gallon tank.  Come prepared to have a good time and be sure to have some great questions ready for us!

 

Attendees should meet the Career Exploration group leader at the FCCLA Registration Desk at 9:00 a.m. and will walk to the Aquarium restaurant as a group.  There is an $8 cost for this exploration which will cover the cost of lunch. 

Careers that will be presented or discussed:  Biology, Curator and/or Life Support Manager

Tuesday, July 14, 8:00 - 11:30 a.m.

"Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace Plaza" 

Location:  Dave Ramsey's Office 

Description:  Dave Ramsey's company of over 250 members helps people handle their personal finances.  Dave is recognized as the nation's leading expert in this topic.  He shares his message through a TV Show, Radio Show, curriculum materials, books, and other avenues.  There is no cost for this exploration and transportation will be provided.  Shuttles will depart at 8:00 a.m. from the Gaylord Opryland Presidential Portico entrance. 

Careers that will be presented or discussed:  Media, web design, sales, leadership, and various other careers will be highlighted.

Participation is limited to:  50

Wednesday, July 15, 8:30 - 11:30 a.m.

"Creative Career Exploration" 

Location:  The Art Institute of Tennessee - Nashville 

Description:  Come visit The Art Institute of Tennessee - Nashville and tour the school, design labs, commercial kitchens and digital labs. You will learn more about careers in the areas of Interior Design, Fashion Retail Management and Marketing, Culinary Arts, Animation, Audio, Graphic Design and more.  Bring your questions and get ready to be inspired.  There is no cost for this exploration and transportation will be provided.  Shuttles will depart from the Gaylord Opryland Presidential Portico entrance.  

Careers that will be presented or discussed:  Interior Design, Fashion Retail Management and Marketing, Culinary Arts, Animation, Audio, Graphic Design

Participation is limited to:  60

Wednesday, July 15, 8:30 - 11:30 a.m.

"National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA) presents the Nashville Interior Design Tour" 

Location:  National Kitchen and Bath Association 

Description:  Come see the world through the eyes of an interior designer.  This tour, sponsored by the National Kitchen and Bath Association, will take you to three retail locations where you will learn about different aspects of the industry.  You are even invited into a designer-only showroom so you can learn how to shop for spaces like the pros!  There is no cost for this exploration and transportation will be provided by NKBA.  Shuttles will depart at 8:30 a.m. from the Gaylord Opryland Presidential Portico entrance.  

Careers that will be presented or discussed:  Kitchen and Bath Design/Interior Design

Wednesday, July 15, 12:30 - 3:30 p.m.

"Marketing, Management and the Message" 

Location:  Iostudio, LLC 

Description:  From interactive websites to targeted, contemporary print publications, Iostudio is a versatile marketing communications agency.  Over the last 10 years, Iostudio has created award-winning, specific and targeted messaging through the use of the web, email, print and video.  During the tour, students will learn about the various careers that bring clients' messages to life — web design, computer programming, project management, videography, creative direction, client account management and more — as well as what education and training you need to work in these industries.  There is no cost for this exploration and transportation will be provided.  Shuttles will depart at 12:30 p.m. from the Gaylord Opryland Presidential Portico entrance.
