Membership Frequently Asked Questions

A: FCCLA is launching a new and improved database that will provide you with access to members only information as well as affiliation. Online affiliation will open beginning August 1st.
A: National dues for each member are $9.00. There is a minimum of 12 members or $108.00 national dues. Both national and state dues must be paid for each member. Find your state dues by contacting your state adviser or call (800) 234-4425.
A: Once you affiliate your chapter is assigned a Chapter ID number. The 2014-2015 affiliation process will create new chapter IDs for each chapter. Login to the National Affiliation Site to find your chapter ID. Your Chapter ID can also be found on all correspondence from national headquarters.
A: Payment of national dues makes the organization possible. National dues support Teen Times, chapter mailings, national programs, chapter resources, training, promotion, processing fees, membership cards, national officer's efforts, membership promotion, National Board of Director's activities, expenses related to raising money, and operating expenses of the national headquarters.
A: Any student who is taking or has taken a course in Family and Consumer Sciences, or as determined by the state department of education, (middle school through grade 12) is eligible for membership in an organized chapter within the school.
A: Any teacher certified in Family and Consumer Sciences education, or as determined by the state department of education, may serve as a chapter adviser.
A: Try the Step One activity, available from national FCCLA website. FCCLA...The Handbook to Ultimate Leadership includes lesson plans for introducing and starting an in-class chapter.
A: Comprehensive members emphasize a variety of Family and Consumer Sciences education programs of study, or as determined by the state department of education. Occupational members are enrolled in educational programs that prepare them for paid employment in a specific Family and Consumer Sciences related career.
A: Yes! Affiliations are accepted until May 31st. However, if members wish to compete in STAR Events the national deadline for affiliation is May 1. Deadlines at the state level may vary. Check with your state adviser.
A: School or district purchase order, a credit card, or a check made payable to FCCLA, are all acceptable forms of payment.
