FCCLA VP shares journey from shy student to national leader
LITTLE ROCK, AR (KATV) — A group of ambitious young leaders from the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) is gearing up for an exciting trip to Washington, DC, for the Capital Leadership conference from Nov. 15-19.
This national event offers members the chance to advocate for family consumer sciences and FCCLA, while also gaining valuable advocacy skills.
Logan Guynn, a junior in high school and the National Vice President of Public Relations for FCCLA, shared her enthusiasm for the upcoming conference.
"During Capital Leadership, movers get the opportunity to really learn advocacy skills, because we are advocating for an organization that we truly love," she said.
Participants will also attend business and industry panels to learn from professionals in their career pathways and engage in role-playing exercises to prepare for meetings with state legislators.
Logan's journey with FCCLA began in seventh grade when a former national officer inspired her to get involved.
Since then, she has climbed the ranks from regional to national levels, finding a sense of family within the organization. "FCCLA has truly given me that; it has turned that shy seventh-grade Logan into the woman that I am today," she said.
Sandy, who works closely with young leaders like Logan, expressed her admiration for this new generation.
"These youth inspire me to see this generation and the concern that they have," she said.
"They want to be change makers, and they want to impact their communities and families in a positive way."
As for Logan's future, she plans to attend Spelman College and pursue a pre-law track, aiming to become a lawyer, possibly an attorney ad litem or a child advocate.
She hopes to apply the communication and problem-solving skills she's gained from FCCLA in her future career.
Logan encourages others, especially those in Arkansas and the Palmetto area, to get involved with FCCLA.
"It's one life, no other, and it's truly unique," she said.
With such passion and dedication, these young leaders are sure to make a significant impact at the Capital Leadership conference and beyond.
