Teen RSA
FCCLA’s Teen Road Safety Assessment (RSA) initiative empowers students to take an active role in promoting teen driver safety through peer-to-peer education. By assessing the roads they use every day, members identify potential hazards and evaluate whether local infrastructure is truly safe for teens and the broader community.
Through this program, members raise awareness about traffic safety, educate their peers and neighbors, and focus on areas they travel by car, bike, or on foot. It’s a powerful, hands-on experience that not only opens students’ eyes to safety issues in their own neighborhoods but can also spark meaningful change—especially when assessments reveal intersections or roadways that are unsafe.
Ultimately, participating in an RSA helps teens become more informed and responsible drivers, pedestrians, and bicyclists.
This youth-led effort engages students, school administrators, local law enforcement, and others to study an intersection in front of or near your school or community. The goals of the program are to:
- Use peer-to-peer education to engage students in addressing a geographic area they use daily, whether walking or driving
- Connect students with local members of their community to address road safety
