For Parents

Support Your Child’s Growth. Open the Door to Opportunity.

As a parent or guardian, you want your child to grow into a confident, capable, and caring young adult. You want them to discover their strengths, pursue their interests, and prepare for life after graduation. That is where FCCLA comes in.

Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) is a trusted, school-based leadership program for students enrolled in Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) education courses.

Your child will not just attend meetings. They will engage in life-changing experiences that help them lead with purpose, make informed decisions, and take meaningful steps toward college and career success.

Personal Growth That Lasts a Lifetime

Through FCCLA, students develop a strong sense of identity and direction. They gain real experience that fosters maturity, responsibility, and resilience.

Your child will:

  • Practice public speaking, goal setting, and time management
  • Discover how to work effectively in a team
  • Build self-confidence through leadership roles
  • Learn how to contribute to their school and community
  • Explore career pathways that align with their passions

FCCLA creates a safe and supportive environment where students feel seen, valued, and encouraged to grow—academically and personally.

College and Career Preparation With Purpose

Today’s competitive world demands more than good grades. Colleges, scholarships, and employers look for leadership, initiative, and real-world skills. FCCLA delivers all of that—and more.

As a member, your child will:

  • Develop transferable skills like communication, problem solving, and leadership
  • Earn recognition and awards that set them apart in applications and interviews
  • Explore college majors and future careers through hands-on learning

FCCLA gives your child a head start. The growth they experience inside the program leads to confidence and success long after high school.

Connected to the Classroom. Designed for the Future.

FCCLA is not an extracurricular activity—it is an extension of the classroom. Every FCCLA Chapter is integrated into a school’s Family and Consumer Sciences curriculum, ensuring students are learning, applying, and growing under the guidance of certified educators.

You can feel confident knowing:

  • The program is structured, intentional, and aligned with education standards
  • Advisers are trained teachers committed to student development
  • Activities are rooted in service, leadership, and workforce preparation
  • Student safety and positive youth development are top priorities

Recognition That Builds Pride

FCCLA is built on celebrating effort, growth, and achievement. Members can earn awards, scholarships, and leadership positions that reflect their hard work and dedication.

From local service awards to national-level recognition, your child will experience the pride of being acknowledged for the contributions they make. It is a powerful motivator—and a source of inspiration for their peers.

A National Network With Local Impact

FCCLA serves over a quarter of a million members in schools across all 50 states. Chapters are run by students but supported by adults who care about helping them succeed.

Your child will have access to:

  • State and national leadership conferences
  • Travel and networking opportunities
  • Peer connections that celebrate values like family, service, and integrity

FCCLA members become part of something bigger than themselves—a nationwide movement focused on preparing the next generation of leaders.

What You Can Do as a Parent

Whether your child is already enrolled in a Family and Consumer Sciences class or is just beginning to explore their interests, your encouragement matters.

Here is how you can support their involvement:

  • Ask your child’s school if there is an active FCCLA Chapter. Start with the Family and Consumer Sciences teacher or school counselor.

  • If there is not a chapter, ask the school to consider starting one. FCCLA offers all the tools and support educators need to get started.

  • Talk with your child about the benefits. Let them know this is an opportunity to try new things, meet new people, and grow in meaningful ways.

  • Offer encouragement. Whether they are presenting at a competition or leading a service project, your support gives them the confidence to succeed.

FCCLA helps students take ownership of their future, and every step they take is one you can be proud of.
