Three Forks FCCLA Receives Grant for Hunger Awareness Project

Three Forks Middle School FCCLA members are celebrating the success of their "Who Has the Bigger Bite?" food drive after recently receiving notification that their project has been awarded a $500 Explore.Act.Tell. (E.A.T.) Grant to continue fighting hunger and food insecurity during the upcoming school year.

The Explore.Act.Tell. (E.A.T.) Program engages students in grades 6–12 in project-based learning experiences focused on addressing hunger and food insecurity in their communities. During Homecoming Week in September and October 2025, members of the Three Forks Middle School FCCLA chapter challenged their homecoming opponents to a friendly competition to see which community could collect the most non-perishable food items.

Students organized the "Who Has the Bigger Bite?" food drive, encouraging students, staff, families, and community members to donate food items to support local families in need. Collection boxes were placed at the popcorn stand during the Homecoming Football game, and donations poured in throughout the week.

The project was very successful. Together, the participating schools collected enough donations to provide 100 pounds of food and $50 in cash donations to both the Headwaters Area Food Bank in Three Forks and the Townsend Food Pantry. The donations helped stock shelves and support local families facing food insecurity.

Students leading the project included Isben Alvarez, Elena Elf, Oakley Fallang, Louise Kirwan Kins Krug, John Mace, Nevaeh Starkle, Chase Turner, Madi Williams and Zaiyde Yzaguirre from the Explore FCCLA class. Through the project, students learned about community needs, service leadership, teamwork, and the impact young people can have when they work together to solve real-world problems.

The E.A.T. Program is sponsored by Albertsons Companies and its commitment to helping people live better lives by making a meaningful difference in communities across the country. In 2024, Albertsons Companies and the Albertsons Companies Foundation contributed more than $435 million in food and financial support, including nearly $40 million through the Nourishing Neighbors Program, helping ensure families have access to nutritious food.

Because of the success of the "Who Has the Bigger Bite?" food drive and the positive impact it had on local communities, Three Forks FCCLA was selected to receive a $500 grant to expand and strengthen the project during the 2026-2027 school year.

"We are proud of our students for recognizing a need in our communities and taking action to help others," said FCCLA Adviser Cathe Felz. "Their efforts demonstrate the power of service learning and show that even small actions can make a big difference."

Three Forks FCCLA members look forward to building on this year's success and continuing to address hunger in their communities through future service projects.
