East Central FCCLA Members Share Community Impact Project at ACTE National Policy Seminar
East Central FCCLA Members attended the Association for Career and Technical
Education (ACTE) National Policy Seminar 2026 in Arlington, Virginia, where Career and Technical Education leaders from across the country gathered to discuss policy, advocacy, and program impact. During the event, East Central FCCLA Members shared the story behind the Sunman Open Door Food Pantry, a student-inspired project created to serve the Sunman community.
The Sunman Open Door Food Pantry is a “give and take” pantry designed to provide food, hygiene products, and other essential supplies to individuals and families in need. Located in Sunman Town Park, the pantry was intentionally placed in a walkable, accessible location for community members who may have limited transportation. It is available to residents 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The project began with an idea from FCCLA Members and 2025 East Central High School graduates Kayla and Layla Craig of Sunman. In December 2023, they presented the proposal to Sunman Town Council, where it received unanimous approval.
By presenting this initiative at ACTE’s National Policy Seminar, East Central FCCLA Members demonstrated the powerful role student leaders play in identifying community needs, building meaningful partnerships, and developing service-driven solutions. The Sunman Open Door Food Pantry stands as a strong example of how FCCLA Chapters turn compassion into action and create lasting, positive impact for families, schools, and communities.
